Tuition Exemption and Payment Deferral Program

Please refer to the following information for the existing program. Please visit HERE (Japanese only) for the tuition exemption relating to the impact of COVID-19, etc.

Tuition Exemption System

This is a system for exempting tuition payment for students of Niigata University (excluding Credited Auditors and Research Students. The same shall apply hereinafter) who have difficulty paying course fees.

Decision will be made for students falling under one of the following, based on an application for each academic term.

  1. Applicant with excellent academic records who has difficulty in tuition payment due to economic hardship;
  2. An individual mainly responsible for academic funding for the applicant ("Academic Fund Provider") is deceased within six months from tuition payment deadline for the academic term or during the academic term (one year for exemption of tuition for the academic term including the day of enrollment for first year students); or the applicant or the Academic Fund Provider is affected by a disaster such as windstorm and flood damage and payment is deemed to be extremely difficult; or
  3. Cases similar to the above where the President deems appropriate.

Tuition Deferral System

This is a system for deferral of tuition payment for students of Niigata University (excluding Credited Auditors and Research Students. The same shall apply hereinafter) who have difficulty paying tuition. Decision will be made for individuals falling under one of the following, based on an application for each academic term.

  1. Applicant with excellent academic record who has difficulty in tuition payment by the deadline due to economic hardship;
  2. Applicant or the Academic Fund Provider is affected by a disaster such as windstorm and flood damage, and payment is deemed to be difficult;
  3. Missing person; or
  4. Other cases where there is an unavoidable reason.

Period of deferral of tuition payment will be until September 15th for the first semester, and March 10th for the second semester. Note that payment of tuition will make the student ineligible for exemption or deferral.

Provided, however, special circumstances such as being affected by disasters such as windstorm and flood damage after payment of the tuition can be taken into consideration.
