International Symposium on Fusion Technology

Feb 13 2018

The Faculty of Engineering of Niigata University held the 6th international research symposium, Fusion Tech, for three days from Friday, January 26 to Sunday, January 28.

Fusion Tech is a symposium in which faculty members, graduate students and undergraduates of five universities in East Asia (Japan: Niigata University, Korea: Inha University and Hanyang University, China: Dalian University of Technology and Harbin Institute of Technology) gather in the same venue. Niigata University acted as a host university this year.

On the first day, the opening address by Director Hitoshi Takahashi in charge of Research and Social Collaboration was followed by keynote lectures by Prof. Tatsuya Yamazaki and Prof. Tatsuya Kodama of Niigata University and invited lectures by Dr. Toru Okazaki of the Institute of Applied Energy and Prof. Asanobu Kitamoto of National Institute of Informatics. All the lectures were given in English. The students and other participants listened attentively to the lectures on big data and renewable energy.

Oral and poster presentations on daily research achievements were carried out on the second and the final days. The students looked a little tense but explained with dignity in English to participants from abroad in front of their posters.

On the second day, Saturday, January 27, an international symposium of "Co-creative Dormitory-type Group-work for SciTech Students in Japan and Mekong Countries with Regional Collaboration" (G-DORM), an Inter-University Exchange Project, was held at the same time. The theme of the symposium was "fostering SciTech leaders capable of solving practical issues from an integrative standpoint". The G-DORM symposium was a great success with an invited lecture from Kyoto University, presentations on G-DORM and dormitory-type education by Niigata University's Faculty of Engineering, presentations from cooperative universities in the Mekong countries, and also a poster presentation by students who completed the G-DORM program.
