【To all NU Students】Regarding classes of the second term of the second semester for AY 2022 (Updated on Sep. 5, 2022)

Sep 05 2022

With a view to giving the first priority to enhance the educational effectiveness and the quality of student life, classes for the 2nd semester AY2022 are to be conducted face-to-face in principle.

How to conduct classes:

Classes will be conducted face-to-face as a general rule; however, the classrooms seating of classes for G-code subjects, including Q-code subjects, are to be limited to around 80-percent of seating capacity, as the classes are mainly attended by freshman and sophomore, and conducted in a large classroom, which makes it difficult for class instructors and students to monitor the number of attendees.

Classes for G-code subjects, including Q-code subjects, at around 80-percent or more seating capacity are to be conducted non-face-to-face as a general rule; however, a hybrid style that combines both non-face-to-face and face-to-face measures might be adopted depending on the situation and other factors.

In case it is essential to enhance educational effects or it is difficult to take infection control precautions, the measures of non-face-to-face, or the combination of non-face-to-face and face-to-face classes will be adopted based on the decision by Dean of each Faculty or Graduate School.

Points to Note

  • Classes conducted non-face-to-face from AY 2020 to AY 2022 due to the precautions against COVID-19 are to be treated as interview classes as an exceptional measure. The credits of the classes will not be counted in the limit of 60 credits, which is stipulated in University Establishment Standard in Article 60, Paragraph 2 of Niigata University Regulations.
  • The detailed information how to conduct classes for the 2nd semester AY 2022 will be informed of you through the syllabus search system, student web system, and class instructors of your faculty/graduate school.
  • When attending the face-to-face classes, we ask you to follow the instructions by class instructors, and take thorough infection preventive measures such as wearing a mask and taking body temperature.
  • If you feel unwell, such as having a fever, fatigue and sore throat, please refrain from coming to campuses.
  • Please be noted that there might be changes in conducting classes, such as ceasing face-to-face classes depending on the situation of the infection.
  • In case the coronavirus infections are confirmed on campuses and it becomes necessary to identify the persons who have had close contact with the infected person, we ask you to take a seat with a QR code when you attend classes, as it traces the information of classroom seating. When you enter and leave the lecture rooms, be sure to read the code with the smartphone app called “Mamoru Biz.”
  • Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare recommends the use of "COVID-19 Contact-Confirming Application (COCOA)", which enables you to receive notifications about possibility of contact with someone infected with COVID-19. In order to install COCOA, please see HERE.
