Cancellation of the 2020 Entrance Ceremony

Mar 13 2020

Newly Enrolled Students and Families:

We regret to inform you that Niigata University has decided to cancel the 2020 Entrance Ceremony, scheduled to take place on April 3, at Toki Messe.

Due to the growing concern about the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), the university has carefully considered from various viewpoints of the members of the Task Force, formed at the university, including infectious disease specialists.

I believe that all newly enrolling students and their families have been looking forward to the Entrance Ceremony, which is a very important new stage in life.

In view of the current critical situation regarding the spread of coronavirus, however, we have regretfully decided that it would not be appropriate to hold the ceremony, which is attended by approximately 6,000 students and their families every year.

We ask for your kind understanding of our decision as we concluded that priority must be given to the health and safety of our students and their families.

We will inform you of the schedule for orientation session and class once it's been decided.

Sincerely,

USHIKI Tatsuo
President
