Professor Takahiro Ono Received IADR Distinguished Scientist Award

Professor Takahiro Ono of the Graduate School of Medical and Dental Sciences was recognized on Wednesday July 25th, 2018 by the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) with the IADR Distinguished Scientist Award.

IADR, headquartered in the United States, is the world's largest dental academic association, which will soon celebrate its 100th anniversary. There are 11,000 members worldwide and over 5,000 of them participate in the annual convention.

The IADR Distinguished Scientist Award is to acknowledge one renowned member annually who has made significant scientific contributions to the development in 17 research fields from basic to clinical. Professor Ono was selected as the 2018 recipient in Geriatric Oral Research. He is the third Japanese to receive the award in this field. Professor Hideo Miyazaki, also of the Graduate School of Medical and Dental Sciences, received this award in 2012.

Professor Ono specializes in the objective examination of chewing and swallowing disorders and the development of rehabilitation techniques using oral appliances as well as research on the relationship between chewing and general health. This award was for his previous publications in international journals and for the excellent geriatric oral research of Japan, which has entered the super-aged society ahead of the world.
