[To all NU students] Resuming Experimental/Laboratory Classes

Jun 01 2020

Niigata University has been conducting classes online or through other "non-face-to-face" means avoiding contact with others for lecture classes in the first semester (first and second term) . Although some students might feel inconvenience partly because they are not used to non-face-to-face classes, and partly because they have insufficient internet access, most classes have been conducted smoothly thanks to the efforts of the teachers and the cooperation of all the students . We are recognizing new possibilities of higher education.

We have suspended classes requiring face-to-face interaction, such as experimental/laboratory classes and internship during the first term. Now that the nationwide state of emergency has been lifted, face-to-face classes will partly resume from June 16, the second term in the first semester in case it is difficult to conduct non-face-to-face classes for those experimental/laboratory subjects with taking appropriate measures to prevent the spread of infection.

Please keep the following in mind, and take classes from June 16, the second term in the first semester:

<Notes>

・We have requested by e-mail or on our website that those students going back to their parents' homes outside Niigata prefecture, especially in areas where infection has widely spread (as of April 6), should return to Niigata. We encourage you to return to Niigata as soon as possible in order to take face-to-face classes if you are still staying outside Niigata prefecture.

・In case you move from outside Niigata prefecture, you are required to self-monitor your health by using "Health Checklist (ExcelPDF)" for about two weeks.

Make sure to contact your teacher if you can not return to Niigata before the first class due to unavoidable circumstances.

Students who will be compelled to take non-face-to-face classes at the university due to the timetable by taking face-to-face classes, will be allowed to attend classes in the lecture rooms of the university. The lecture rooms to be used will be notified later.

・Regarding the subjects for face-to-face classes, please be sure to check the information, which will be notified by Student Web System around Monday, June 8.
