President USHIKI Tatsuo, together with Executive Vice President NISHIDA Shingo and others, visited three partner universities of Niigata University (NU) in Taiwan from January 23 to 25 and one in the United States on February 14. During the visits, he exchanged views with the presidents of the partners on international exchanges between NU and the four institutions. He also visited student dormitories in Taiwan and the U.S. to gain useful insights for NU's project to construct a new dormitory.
In Taiwan, President USHIKI visited three universities: National Central University (NCU) in Taoyuan City; Feng Chia University (FCU), a private institution in Taichung City; and National University of Kaohsiung (NUK) in Kaohsiung City.
He exchanged ideas with the presidents of the universities on how to promote cooperation in education and research between NU and the institutions. Whilst visiting dormitories of the universities, he was also briefed by dormitory staff members and student ambassadors on how they make their dormitories more attractive and how they manage and operate the facilities.
In the US, President USHIKI visited the University of Rhode Island (URI) in Kingston, Rhode Island. In addition to exchanging opinions with the university’s President regarding their proactive approach to exchange programs and future research exchanges, he observed Japanese language classes. He also visited different types of dormitories, both old and new, and received explanations from dedicated staff members on the state of student dormitories in the U.S., and specific measures which are taken in terms of management and administration.
The presidents and other officials of the universities visited by President USHIKI expressed their strong willingness to promote mutual exchanges of students with NU, making the visits a great opportunity to advance international exchanges with the partner institutions going forward.
Learning from how the partner universities go about the physical and non-physical (management and operational) aspects of their dormitories, we will design a new student dormitory to better accommodate the needs of students.
