Nov 25 2019

Niigata University Festival (Shindai-Sai) is the university festival held at Niigata University's Ikarashi campus in October every year. Along with more than 100 food and drink booths run by student groups, there were a variety of activities and events, including dance, song, music performance, contests participated by Niigata University students and live performances by professional artists as well as comedians. The festival is planned and organized by the Niigata University Festival Committee consisting of about 300 students.

This year the 60th Niigata University Festival was held on Saturday, October 19 and Sunday, October 20, which attracted parents with their children, high school students, people from the community and Niigata University students.

A lot of international students also enjoyed the festival. Ardell Kumbar Daulin, 3rd year student of Faculty of Engineering, ran a food booth on the first day. He has already been in Japan for 4 years and had studied at college. Comparing the experience of the college festival, he said, "The university festival staff handled the event professionally and efficiently. The various booths to explore and experience was amazing, and I personally enjoyed the booths related to Arts. I look forward to next year's festival." One international student from France visited the festival and said, "It was pretty cool and really different from what we have in France. There were so many activities that we never got bored." Another said, "The festival was great. It offered a variety of food and lots of rock music I loved."
