Elucidating a key mechanism underlying cancer invasion/metastasis: Discovery of a unique hydroxylase “PLOD2” essential to the functional activation of integrin on cancer cells.
February 14, 2020
Associate Prof. Ken Saito, Prof. Eisaku Kondo, and their research group at the Division of Molecular and Cellular Pathology, Niigata University Graduate School of Medical and Dental Sciences, elucidated a novel activation mechanism of Integrin, which was regulated by “PLOD2”, a hydroxylase, in collaboration with Dr. Ueki, Prof. Horii (Department of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, Niigata Univ.) and Prof. Sakaguchi (Department of Cell Biology, Okayama Univ.). They found the specific interaction between these molecules was revealed to be essential to cancer metastasis via functional activation of Integrin. This discovery is expected to be an important clue for developing a novel advanced tumor therapeutics by suppression of cancer metastasis.
