Niigata University signed an inter-university agreement with Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) in India.
CUSAT is a comprehensive university founded in 1971 with the main campus in Cochin, Kerala in southern India. It focuses on science and engineering research and graduate school education, and has a high international reputation, especially in advanced atmospheric radar research.
Niigata University’s Faculty of Science and the Graduate School of Science and Technology are fostering individuals in global science through exchanges with multiple universities in India. We concluded this inter-university agreement to further expand academic exchange between the two universities based on collaborative research in geology for over 20 years between the Marine Sciences Department of CUSAT and Professor Satish Kumar of our Faculty of Science. Collaborative research and student exchange programs are also planned in the field of marine biology with Prof. Hironori Ando at Niigata University's Sado Marine Biology station in the coming years.
Niigata University professors Satish Kumar and Ando, Vice Chancellor J. Letha and many related faculty and staff from CUSAT attended the signing ceremony held in India. Collaboration between both universities was confirmed in a friendly and peaceful atmosphere.

Presentations and briefings about each university were given at booths at the fair. It was a good opportunity to attract approximately 300 Indian students to studying in Japan, including our university.
We will continue to expand academic and student exchanges with India as part of the East Asian Rim scheme.
