A Group of Students from the Faculty of Economic Sciences Won the Special Jury Prize in a Presentation Contest for University Students

A group of students* from the Faculty of Economic Sciences, Niigata University participated in a presentation contest for university students and successfully won the Special Jury Prize. The contest is called "The Third Future Leaders Program (FLP): Future Scenarios for Northeast Asia," organized by the Economic Research Institute for Northeast Asia (ERINA), which has a partnership agreement with Niigata University.

The contest has been held annually since 2019 to discover and nurture future opinion leaders by cultivating students’ wisdom and deepening their global interest toward the future of Northeast Asia, which has a great potential for economic development, and political and social instability.

The final screening of the contest was held at Toki Messe in Niigata City on Friday, February 18, 2022. Three groups from four universities inside and outside of Niigata Prefecture made their final presentations and offered various proposals for the long-term future of Northeast Asia. The participating students presented their well-considered ideas impressively and answered the sharp questions given by judges confidently.

Following the presentations, a panel of judges, consisted of organizations such as consulates from various countries, news media, and government agencies, evaluated the presentations with a rigorous criteria.  As a result, a group of students from the Faculty of Economic Sciences, Niigata University won the Special Jury Prize. At the award ceremony, Representative Director KAWAI, the jury chairperson, delivered a word of support for students: "Your presentations boldly confronted the common challenges faced by Northeast Asia, and the proposal details were very meaningful. We hope you will continue to keep up your good work as the future leaders in Northeast Asia."

Niigata University will continue to work and contribute to the development of local communities through a variety of projects including developing human resources and making efforts to solve issues on a global level.
