Joint training program with four administrative staff members from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka (UoP) under the inter-university agreement was held on September 6, 9 and 10.
UoP, originally established as the University of Ceylon in 1942 is the oldest university in Sri Lanka. Today, UoP has developed into a national university with 9 Faculties and 3 Graduate Schools and been recognized as the nation's leading educational and research institution. After UoP concluded an agreement with the Faculty of Dentistry, Niigata University in 2004 and with the School of Health Sciences, Faculty of Medicine in February, 2010, an inter-university agreement was concluded in December 2010. Since then, we have carried out various programs to promote not only student, but also faculty and staff exchange. The program this year was the 9th time.
This year, three staff members from three different divisions at Niigata University, the Student Affairs Division, Personnel Planning Division and Brain Research Institute Office participated in the program as a part of their training program in English, which started in 2017. On the first day, the presentations about each university were given, a question-and-answer session and free discussion were held in addition to the library tour. On the second day, all seven participants visited relevant divisions and some facilities such as International House (Accommodation for international students and researchers) listening attentively to the three staff of Niigata University as they toured the actual sites. On the third day, they went on an excursion in which they visited a Sake brewery as well as Yahiko shrine. Through the three-day program, the staff of Niigata University explained not only their daily work but also Japanese culture in English. With both sides having a lively conversation, the training program ended up fruitful for both sides.
