Summer Program 2026, Niigata University

The International Exchange Center, Organization for Global Engagement, Niigata University, held “Niigata University Summer Program 2026” online from August 24 to 27. The program brought together 14 students from 10 partner universities in 7 countries and 8 Niigata University students. The program was designed to deepen participants’ intercultural understanding and develop the practical communication skills necessary for studying abroad and engaging in international learning opportunities.
During the program, Niigata University students and students from partner universities were divided into groups of three to four members and worked together to create Digital Kamishibai. Over the four-day program, participants collaborated online to develop stories and prepare their presentations. On the final day, each group presented its completed work, after which a voting session was held to showcase and celebrate the unique qualities of each project.
According to the post-program survey, participants expressed a high level of satisfaction. Student comments included: “Talking with people who grew up in countries different from my own gave me new insights into English expressions and daily life, and it was a very enjoyable experience,” “I became less hesitant to speak English and was able to actively ask my group members how we could improve our presentation,” and “I strongly felt motivated to communicate with more people in English and broaden my perspectives.” Students from partner universities also reported a growing interest in Niigata University. Some expressed a desire to study at the university in the future and to experience student life at Niigata University firsthand. These responses indicate that the program served as a valuable opportunity to motivate students to pursue future study abroad experiences.
Through this program, students from different countries and academic disciplines successfully collaborated online to create a single project, deepening their understanding of different cultures and strengthening their awareness of international cooperation. Niigata University will continue to offer a variety of international educational programs that promote global learning and intercultural exchange.
