Niigata University held "Summer Program 2019, Niigata University" from Thursday, August 22nd to Wednesday, August 28th. This was the first time to hold this Program, which consisted of Japanese language class, Japanese culture class in English and seminars/practical courses in some specialized fields. The participants were the international students who belong to our partner universities which have concluded agreement with us ; 15 students from India, China, Malaysia, France and Russia.

In the first half of the Program, the participants took some Japanese culture courses including Japanese language, Ukiyo-e, Kimono and Origami. In the latter half of the Program, some participants joined "Practice in Sado Island", held at Sado Island Center for Ecological Sustainability, Niigata University and the others joined "Field Study", held at the research institutes and companies in Niigata city. On Saturday, August 24th, along with some Japanese students, the participants enjoyed the excursion in which they visited some factories in Sanjo city to see traditional craftsmanship and Yahiko shrine.

On the last day, the participants gave presentations at the Library Hall on Ikarashi campus, introducing their home countries as well as sharing what they had learned and experienced through this Program. At the end of each presentation, they expressed their appreciation to their peer participants, the Japanese students, their teachers and the staff members.

At the farewell party held following the presentation, Prof. Ushiki, the Executive Vice President for International Affairs gave a commemorative gift to each participant and sent a message : "I am hoping that you will become a bridge between Niigata University and your home university and come back to Niigata University to study as an exchange student or a degree-seeking student keeping the network you have established through this Program."
