Study in Japan Educational Fair in Khabarovsk, Russia

Niigata University organized "Study in Japan Educational Fair" as well as its related events in Khabarovsk, Russia from Friday, November 15 to Saturday, November 16. Niigata University, along with Hokkaido University and University of Tsukuba have been commissioned by Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology – Japan (MEXT) to implement "Study in Japan Global Network Project" since last year. The fair was held as part of the project with the full cooperation of Far Eastern State Medical University, which is our partner university offering us the venue.

From Japan, a total of 6 organizations including 4 universities and 2 Japanese-language schools participated in the fair held from the 15th to 16th. The fair provided the overview of studying in Japan, the talks about the experience of studying in Japan by Russian students, presentation by each participating organization and the booths for individual consultation. Throughout the two-day fair, a total of approximately 300 local high school and university students participated and many students were eager to ask questions. At the adjoining booths, the participants enjoyed Japanese culture, such as calligraphy, origami and kimono.

During the period of the fair, several other events took place. On the 15th, trial lectures on medical science were presented by Niigata University and Fukushima Medical University. 280 students from Far Eastern State Medical University attentively listened to the lectures about internal medicine, otorhinolaryngology and anatomy. On the 16th, the lectures "Far Eastern Medical Care and Health Fair", which were open to the public, were organized by "Niigata Consortium for Japan Russia Medical Sciences and Educational Exchanges"* with Far Eastern State Medical University as a co-organizer.

*"Niigata Consortium for Japan Russia Medical Sciences and Educational Exchanges" is the association with Niigata University as the main organizer along with several organizations, including local government, financial institutions and think tanks.

Each of the two-day event was a great opportunity to introduce the attractions of Japan and Niigata to the people in Far East of Russia. Niigata University will continue to further promote academic collaboration with Russia and encourage Russian students to study in Japan making use of our achievement we have made through cooperation with Russia.
