Niigata University, as a community-based university, works to help create a safe and secure community. As part of this effort, our students, faculty and staff participated in a disaster prevention drill of the local community association on Ikarashi campus on Sunday, June 3.
Approximately 120 people including local residents, our students, faculty and staff, and Niigata City staff participated in the drill. The participants assuming disaster situations, confirmed the route to evacuation sites in disasters, had training using an earthquake experience vehicle and AED.
Fifteen international students from Niigata University also participated and had a drill with local residents. The students' remarks included the following: "I was frightened to experience the shakes in an experience vehicle for the first time" and "It was a good opportunity to learn how to use an AED." They learned how to respond to disaster and simultaneously deepened their relationships with local residents.
Niigata University will continue to further work with local communities in the future.
