MEXT Re-Inventing Japan Project: The 1st GLocal Age 2020 Symposium 2017

The 1st GLocal Age 2020 Symposium 2017 was held at Niigata University on Thursday, May 18, as a scope of MEXT Re-inventing Japan Project (Turkey), which has started in 2015.

The Faculty of Agriculture, the Graduate School of Science and Technology, and the Research Institute for Natural Hazards and Disaster Recovery of Niigata University and Fukushima University in collaboration with three Turkish Universities, Ankara, Ege and Middle East Technical Universities, work together in this project to foster global specialists with resilience to respond to various difficult situations, by learning food science and disaster prevention technology with experience and wisdom of both countries.

Approximately 70 people including professors, faculty, staff, students, and non-faculty participants attended to the symposium, which started with a general introduction to explain the project content. A Turkish Assistant Professor gave a brief introduction about Turkish history, topography, and agriculture, followed with the current safety report of Turkey. In addition, an intermediate-term exchange student from Ankara University had a presentation in fluent Japanese about her research conducting at Niigata University.

Japanese students who attended the outbound program of GLocal Age 2020 presented in English about their experiences, what they learned and the future directions. There was also a report on the acceptance of Turkish students, and they were highly interested in agriculture, disaster prevention and reconstruction technology in Niigata.

Two companies introduced their activities about technology transfer in agriculture and disaster prevention with Turkey, which was intently listened by the participants.
