On October 30, H.E. Mr. Ivan SURKOŠ, Ambassador of Slovakia to Japan paid a visit to Niigata University and exchanged views with President USHIKI Tatsuo, Executive Vice President for Global Affairs SOMEYA Toshiyuki, and Prof. MIZOGUCHI Yuki, Dean of Faculty of Economic Sciences. Three members of Niigata Slovakia Association, including President KOBAYASHI Grondžáková Fukiko, were also present.

During the meeting, President USHIKI,  Executive Vice President SOMEYA and Professor MIZOGUCHI welcomed the visit and discussed methods to attract students from Slovakia to Niigata, including inquiring what fields of study the Slovakian students want to pursue in Japan.

In response, Ambassador Ivan SURKOŠ commented that while most students seeking to study in Japan are interested in Japanese language and culture, some also pursue specific fields such as material science and biology. The ambassador also noted that he would like to encourage Slovak universities to collaborate with Niigata University, which would benefit bilateral relations between the countries.

After the meeting with NU’s high-ranking officials, the ambassador gave a special seminar to students of the Faculty of Economic Sciences. The seminar covered topics such as Slovakian history and geography, as well as the background and benefits of membership in the European Union.

The students listened attentively to the ambassador’s informative talk and had the opportunity to ask questions regarding the seminar and deepened the understanding on the related subjects.
