Re-entry to Japan

Re-entry into Japan (Updated: Nov. 25, 2022)

When entering/returning to Japan from abroad, please make sure to observe the Japanese border measures introduced by the Japanese government.
As for Niigata University’s rules regarding the students entering or returning to Japan from abroad, please check the regulations below.

【Students】
Niigata University (NU) recommends that students should self-quarantine for about 3 days at a place such as home, to the extent possible, even if the government’s border measures does not require them to self-quarantine after entering Japan.
Try to avoid contact with others for about 3 days if you are not able to self-quarantine at home etc., due to the unavoidable circumstances.
In particular, if you expect to come into contact with students, faculty and university staff during the period of approximately 3 days after entering/returning to Japan, we recommend that you should test yourself for the virus using a test kit such as the COVID-19 antigen test kit.

*If you are to attend the classes within 3 days after entering Japan, please consult with your class instructor(s) yourself.

All entrants (returnees) are required to monitor their health condition and record their activities for seven days after entering Japan (14 days if entering from countries/regions where the mutant strains other than the Omicron variant are dominant). After the self-monitoring period, be sure to submit the records to Student Affairs Office of your faculty/graduate school.

◎Returning to your home country temporarily

Niigata University requires students to refrain from non-essential traveling for private purposes such as sightseeing trips.

If you need to return to your home country due to the unavoidable circumstances such as nursing your family, please make sure to contact your academic supervisor and Student Affairs Office of your faculty/graduate school, and consult with them about your situation and the timing of your departure in advance.
If you decide to return to your home country temporarily, please check the above procedures carefully, and keep close contact with your supervisor and Student Affairs Office of your faculty/graduate school, and inform them of your situation regularly.
