Niigata University held "Study in Japan Online Fair" for Russia from Thursday, November 5 to Friday, November 6 in collaboration with Hokkaido University and University of Tsukuba. The fair provided those students and university educators who have a great interest to study in Japan with a wide range of information concerning national, public, and private universities as well as language schools.

"Study in Japan Fair" is the Japanese government's project aiming to increase the number of international students. Niigata University, along with Hokkaido University and University of Tsukuba have been commissioned by Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), having jointly launched the project with a view of gaining international students from Russia and the CIS region. The fair was held online this year due to the COVID-19 situation although it was held in Russia in 2018 and 2019.

Over the two days, 17 participants, including 15 universities, one Japanese language school as well as JASSO (Japan Student Services Organization), introduced basic information necessary to study in Japan as well as features and research programs of each university. Throughout the two-day fair, a total of approximately 400 people participated, showing considerable interest to study in Japan. During the presentation about the experience of studying in Japan by Russian students, they enthusiastically talked about the meaning and outcomes of studying abroad.
